Communication & Collaboration

...collaboration lies at the heart of successful learning...

At Lansdowne, we fundamentally believe that collaboration lies at the heart of successful learning. Tutors work closely with each student to develop a cooperative relationship and this helps break down the conventional teacher-pupil relationship prevalent in earlier education that many students find restrictive and unconducive to efficient and effective learning.

Our students feel like they are working with the tutors, rather than for them.

According to our Ofsted report, “relationships between students and teachers are very positive and students say how valued and comfortable they feel in lessons and in the culture of achievement within the college”.

We find that this mutuality, both in interest and goal, played out through working together, brings out the best in our students, both personally and academically, as well as preparing them for a life in which working with others is a key part.

We also recognise the great part parents play in the learning process and as a result, we look to keep parents as informed and as involved as we can. As each student is allocated a Personal Tutor, they will always be the first point of contact for a parent.

Alongside the regular reporting and the half-termly parents evening, we encourage parents to be in contact whenever they would like and to take an active role in their child’s education.

In the Autumn term 2010, we launched Lansdowne Online which is an online resource for parents where they can get information on their child’s timetable, reports and real time stats on attendance.
