The preferred entry qualifications for the UK’s leading universities are A-Levels but, increasingly, the best universities look back at students’ GCSE results when making admissions decisions. At Lansdowne College, our A*-A percentage is double the national average in a number of subjects including Maths. In 2015 and 2016, 100% of our GCSE students progressed to study A-Levels, which is all the more remarkable considering that a number of our students undertake their GCSEs in just one year.
Our outstanding GCSE courses are designed to give students a complete education in the core facilitating subjects with options in the Arts, Humanities and Languages. This provides them with the perfect base from which to progress to the broadest range of subjects at A-Level. Advice, support and guidance on A-Level subject choice and potential degree and career opportunities are provided throughout the programme. Learning is supported by detailed teacher-written notes and lessons are complemented by regular exam practice periods that build up confidence in formal examinations and ensure students are progressing towards target grades.
Lansdowne College’s building and its peaceful residential setting are ideal for younger students. This combines with our holistic approach to develop independent learners ready for the demands of A-Level study. Our teachers build relationships with their students based on trust and mutual respect in a relaxed, yet rigorous, environment that encourages them to maintain the highest academic and personal standards.
