Personal Tutoring System
...collaborative Relationships...
The personal tutoring system is at the very heart of what we do at Lansdowne and it is a fundamental contributing component of what makes us the fantastic College that we are. Its twin aims are both to develop and build collaborative relationships, as well as to ensure academic rigour and excellence. These aims embody the Lansdowne ethos.

The Personal Tutor is the first reference point for all students and they meet at a designated time each and every week. Alongside this, impromptu meetings can be arranged as and when the need arises. At a more general level, the Personal Tutor acts as a mentor to help, guide and support each and every one of their students
The weekly Personal Tutor Period is designed to:
- Address any academic or pastoral issues affecting the student.
- Address all issues relating to academic progress. Falling below college targets in any area may result in a student being put on College Report – a continuous process of target setting and monitoring to improve performance.
- Distribute and discuss monthly reports and a discussion of these reports with individual students.
- Deliver of the Learning Skills programme, developing study skills relating to time management, learning styles, attitudes and motivation, exam preparation and strategy, revision planning, etc.
- Implement the UCAS and Careers Programme for A Level students – a series of PowerPoints, handouts and related assignments concerned with completing UCAS applications, considering and researching their career options.
- Ensure students are using their Student Handbook correctly, including keeping a record of their monthly Grade Point Average score.
